1 INSTALLATION

Within CEDEX, the “Laboratorio de Geotecnia” is the centre specialized in Geotechnical Engineering and activities related to the ground so it will be the centre linked with the GEOLAB projects.

CEDEX (Centro de Estudios y Experimentación de Obras Públicas) is an autonomous public research agency aimed at providing technical consultancy to the Spanish Ministry of Transports and to develop research in the different fields of Civil Engineering. It was founded in 1957. It comprises eight major research centres that cover some of the thematic areas of civil engineering: Water, Structures and Materials, Harbours, ports and Coasts, Transport and Mobility, Roads, Sustainability, Ecological Transition, Geotechnical Engineering, Railway Interoperability, Historical Heritage of Public Works, Circular Economy, and Knowledge Transfer.

This variety of research centres makes it possible to have a global view of the Civil Engineering problems tackled by GEOLAB. The centre employs around 420 people.

The functions performed can be grouped into:

• Specialized and high-level technical assistance and consultancy, based on testing and experimentation on unique equipment and facilities;
• R&D&C in the field of public works, sustainable and connected mobility, environment and climate change; and
• Training, dissemination and knowledge transfer.
