Throughout the world, we work on smart solutions, innovations and applications for people, environment and society. Our main focus is on deltas, coastal regions and river basins. Managing these densely populated and vulnerable areas is complex, which is why we work closely with governments, businesses, other research institutes and universities at home and abroad. As an applied research institute, the success of Deltares can be measured in the extent to which our expert knowledge can be used in and for society. For Deltares the quality of our expertise and advice comes first. The institute employs more than 800 people. Deltares has worldwide offices and affiliates in United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Indonesia, Brazil and USA.
The Deltares’ strategic principle ‘Enabling Delta Life’ focuses on knowledge and technology development to provide innovative solutions to make living and working in deltas, coastal areas and river basins safe, clean and sustainable. Deltares offers for this purpose a unique combination of knowledge, experience and facilities in the field of water, soil and infrastructure.
The research that Deltares does for the built environment and critical infrastructure focuses on reducing costs and risks when building in coastal regions, soft ground and at sea. Innovative strategies and solutions are looked into that mitigate the effects of climate change and aging. Moreover, to implement new designs and/ or innovative solutions, Deltares aims to integrate her technical knowledge on water, subsurface and infrastructure with governance and policymaking to solve problems in highly complex dynamic delta systems. The primary focus is therefore to develop and test concepts, methods and instruments to realize this goal.
